Doug Lewis’ practice

Doug is one of the few lawyers in Ontario who is also a Chartered
Accountant. This background is invaluable to him in corporate and
commercial law.
Doug presently serves as a director of Guyana Precious Metals Inc.
which is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and as a director of
the State Bank of India (Canada)
Involvement in community affairs has always been a big part of
Doug’s life. From 2001 to 2006 Doug was a member of the Orillia
Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation Board and chaired the
successful campaign to raise $12 Million for the addition and
renovation of the hospital. He is the only person to be recognized
as Orillia’s Citizen of the year twice, in 1972 and 2002.
Doug served as the Member of Parliament for Simcoe North from 1979
to 1993. During that time he also served in the Cabinet of Prime
Minister Brian Mulroney as Government House Leader, Attorney General
of Canada and Minister of Justice, Minister of Transport, and
Solicitor General.
Doug was the Chair of the Federal Government Panel on Railway Safety
in Canada during 2007. Many of the recommendations of the Panel were
adopted as law by the government. He is currently the Chair of the
Audit Committee of the Ministry of the Attorney General. He also
served as a Bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada from 2007 to
2011.
